question_mark_sunsystems_securityDo you know if your organisation’s Infor SunSystems instance is secure? It is important to bear in mind that it is no longer possible to ensure security on releases of SunSystems older than v6.4. This does not mean that older releases of SunSystems have reached end-of-life, just that support services are changing.

Older releases of SunSystems, such as v4/v5/v6.1/v6.2/v6.3, do not comply with the latest Infor NIS2 compliance strategy, a global strategy for compliance cyber-security. Infor as a cloud-based software provider has to ensure its NIS2 compliance strategy focuses on data security, incident response, and supply chain security, aligning with the NIS2 Directive's requirements for critical sectors, including those related to digital infrastructure and financial services.

It may be that the current server systems in use, that your version of SunSystems runs on, may be coming to their end of lifespan. Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2, for example, reached end of support on October 10, 2023. In order to ensure business continuity, it is essential to ensure compatibility between SunSystems and server versions.

Therefore, if your organisation’s SunSystems release is older than v6.4, not only do you run the risk of using a system version that is insecure, but it also might not be continually developed. Patch set releases to fix bugs and system issues may be less frequent, or may have stopped altogether, increasing risk to the business.

What’s the solution?
We advise that organisations who are on a SunSystems release prior to SunSystems v6.4 (and Infor Query & Analysis (Q&A) v11.3), remain secure and avoid risks and disruption by upgrading to either SunSystems v6.4, or even better, SunSystems Cloud. It’s crucial to protect your business data, whether on-site, in the cloud, or on mobile devices, by migrating to a more modern platform. Infor's older Q&A versions, like Q&A10, were 32-bit applications, while the newer Q&A11.3 is 64-bit and designed to support Office 365 for both 32-bit and 64-bit Excel versions, providing a more streamlined experience.

The benefits to upgrading include enhancements to not only security, but also productivity and efficiency. Upgrading to SunSystems Cloud, the latest release of the market leading financial management platform, comes with additional benefits, such as access to the Infor OS (Operating Service) technology platform, which provides greater integration and collaboration opportunities, helping to increase employee engagement and agility. Meanwhile, it's also important to know that SunSystems v6.4 will continue for bug fixes and security enhancements only for the foreseeable future.

With many finance and IT teams looking to upgrade their business infrastructure, and make the transition to cloud financial management, now may be the right time for your organisation to make the switch to SunSystems Cloud, especially if you are currently on an older version of the solution.
